GOOGLING MYSELF
I googled my name ' Lax Ganesan' in the google search bar and found the first three hits in the first page was websites/pages related to me and my account. My Facebook account, google account and google contact was shown in the first 3 hits in the first page.
- Why do you think were there so many or so few hits about you?
- I have a few hits about me and neither of the posts or websites were created by someone else on the honor of my name. Mostly the websites are social accounts created by myself that is related to google. I have a very few hits because I have not contributed or have done any accomplishment such as writing articles, academic journals in the internet. Next, is that unlike other public fame or academically certified people I have no acknowledgement from the public which make me quite unknown to the world.
- Would you prefer to have more or less hits, and why?
- Yes,I would like to have more hits about me. Not only getting to be a well known famous person but this gives me a chance to show my true talent and my knowledge to the world. Furthermore, this acknowledgement is very usual especially when we define someone's level of accomplishment in life. The research article done being published is an example where people get to know about our depth of knowledge and how good I am which makes people around us to respect and acknowledge us.This situation is also helpful for us when we pursue higher academic level or when getting a job.
- What might the benefits of having lots of hits on Google be in the future?
- First is that our accomplishments and efforts can be acknowledged by others which makes me quite well-known to the world especially in the industry world where this will be helpful for others to recognize us .Second is our presence and existence in the world will be remembered by everyone until forever and this could be used as future references.
- What potential downsides are there to having many hits on Google?
- The disadvantages of having more hits is that our data especially our personal data is free to be accessed by anyone where this might affect our personal life because there are some data that we would like to be kept as a secret from the others. Imagine if everyone reads your personal diary. Second is that data published in the internet can be easily misused and anyone can use our data (e.g articles, research notes) where plagiarism will be more often until a situation where our information is not our's anymore. The risk of our data being robbed is high when we are more well-known simply because you are the talk of the town.
- Explain why your Google-presence may help or hinder you getting a job after your degree?
- My google-presence can help me to get a job after a degree because our employers can know talents and how far people around the world has recognized our accomplishments and efforts in our work. If you are famous that is simply because you must be either good or bad in something. If I prove my worthiness to the world by contributing something useful to the world then the employers will be impressed by how much our accomplishments are recognized around the world. This gives me a better chance of getting hired in a company rather than a normal employee. This automatically gives me great motivation to succeed even better.
- What information is available on this public profile? Are there photos visible? Are your interests visible?
- Some of the information available in my public profile are my intro such as my personal biography, friends list, photos and my posts/status. Photos are also available where photo's of my posts are visible to everyone who views my profile as public. Yes my interests such as musics, TV shows, artists are visible to everyone
- What makes you uncomfortable about the visibility of this information, and why?
- My information are visible to the public which makes me feel that there are people who can observe and check our profile especially our personal data such as my phone number or my address. This is a problem especially if someone misuses these data to spoil our name in social platform. Much to worse, this could even increase the risk of our account being hacked by unknown personals in the internet. Some who have a grudge against us can use this as a chance to get their revenge on us by misusing our data and information or even using our photos without our recognition.
- Explain why you would be happy/unhappy for a potential employer to see this page.
- I feel happy if a potential employer to see this page because my page is quite organized and well maintained. Although there are few posts that are not related to career wise but an employer can access my page anytime to learn our interests and mainly how we behave social surroundings. My timeline doesn't consist of photos that are inappropriate or even posts that are not well-mannered. This can be a great prove that my social life is well-disciplined and organized. Furthermore, employer can also look through my timeline to even learn about me even better because our posts describe our behaviors more than anything. To prove my well-disciplined characteristics accessing my page might be a great evidence.

- Facebook calculates this by using programming language and coding to find how many people we have searched for in Facebook and our Facebook activities.
- Do any of the people at the top of your on the list surprise you? Why do you think they are near the top?
- No they don't surprise me at all. In fact i'm quite happy to see who or what have I searched for in Facebook. The reason some are near my top because of the fact that how many times I have searched for them in Facebook and the frequency of it . This explains on which pages I'm most interested on.
- Would you be happy or unhappy to show this list to your Facebook friends, and why?
- Yes, I would be quite happy to show this to my friends as this would give me a chance to let them know my interests such my favorite TV shows, comics and musics to my friends.

- Only my close friends can see my posts.

- No I would not be happy because this means everyone can access and observe my profile and my posts which makes worried that someone can misuse my posts
- If it is Friends of Friends, what are the implications of posting to a relatively large group of people that you may not know?
- This could make us people who may know us to learn about us. This is both good and bad where we could have a new relationship with other friends however this could affect our privacy and security.
- Who can look you up and can search engines link to your Timeline? Who could potentially see your Timeline if this is set to On?
- Public can look me up and search engines link to your timeline. This setting can make everyone to see my timeline.
- How many apps are listed as having access to some or all of your data? How many do you remember authorizing?
- 31 of my apps are listed as having access to my data and all of these apps were authorized by me with my awareness.
- Do you trust all of those applications to use your data responsibly? Why?
- No because there are some apps that I believe are not trustworthy however most of the apps I have signed i with Facebook are trusted apps so I think they would use my data responsibly.
- If one of these applications were bought by another company, would you consider removing the app from Facebook? Why?
- This clearly depends on the company that are in-charge. If it is a company that are trustworthy or with a very low privacy and security settings then I would remove this app but if the company is quite a good tightly secured company with no major issues such as Bankruptcy then i would pursue to keep the apps under my Facebook Account.
